My top 4 tips for honeymoon planning ease!
Welcome! I bet you are off and running on planning out ALL the details for your upcoming wedding!
I feel for brides these days! Wow has it changed since I married in 2005! I literally assigned my sister in law to pick out my cake and a family friend to just randomly do my flowers. These days, you brides have your work cut out and it always comes together amazingly! You’ve got this!
So, now that some of the major details of the wedding planning are ironed out- it’s time to start dreaming of that tropical destination for your honeymoon! You want that relaxing week with your significant other to be everything you dreamt- fun pool activities, relaxing beach afternoons, fun cocktails, delicious romantic dinners and of course long walks on the beach.
But how do you know where that perfect spot is? There are so many areas to choose from and if you haven’t been to an all inclusive resort before, things may seem confusing- especially this year! I’m here to guide you and give you my top 4 tips to planning your honeymoon!
Let’s get started……
If you do not have your passports yet, this needs to be moved to TOP PRIORITY! The passport office has been a bit behind and may not currently be expediting passports at this time due to the pandemic. A general (and safe rule of thumb) is to be sure your passport is valid for 6 months AFTER you return! Also brides, you need to book your airline info in your maiden name because that’s what your passport will likely read- whatever the case, those two documents MUST match! You can find more info on passports, here: https://iafdb.travel.state.gov
As if planning a wedding mid pandemic is not stressful enough, honeymooning can be more of the same! It’s important to know the destination requirements! Do they require a negative Covid test? If so, which test? What time frame must you submit results and where? Or maybe you don’t want to mess with the paperwork, so you need to find a destination that is not requiring Covid testing before arrival! Also, some areas may have a mandatory quarantine period upon arrival. Once you decide on a location, be sure you keep tabs on changing policies. Like everything, requirements are fluid. Also, be sure to check out your airlines website before departure to make sure you know the expectations for masks, temperature screening, on board beverage and food options and also mobile boarding passes.
Be sure you and your significant other discuss budget! I bet you have had more than your fair share of budget discussions lately, but it’s important to start your marriage off on the right foot and that is clear communication! If someone else is paying for your honeymoon, be sure you are respectful of their budget as well. Once you know the numbers you are working with you are far closer to being able to find a great option. Don’t get sucked down the rabbit hole of looking at destinations or resorts you can’t afford.
Make a list with the following three categories: must haves, wish list, no go’s. Here is an explanation of why I want you to do this. Your must haves are basically non-negotioables (examples: beach front resort, adults only, swim up bar, etc). Wish list items are things that would be added bonuses but not deal breakers (examples: spa, water sports, ocean view rooms, etc). And lastly, your no go column are things that would be deal breakers and cause you to reconsider (examples: not a gated resort with security, not all inclusive, poor food reviews, small beach, etc).
